HEB ISD Proposes Enhanced Safety Measures and Mental Health Support Following Student Incident

A recent altercation among students has highlighted security concerns at Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, prompting the district to propose significant safety and mental health initiatives.

Plans include mandatory de-escalation and conflict-resolution training for all staff, new crisis-response teams on each campus, and more hall monitors to oversee high-traffic areas.

Recognizing increased stress among students, the district is set to add licensed social workers and psychologists, along with weekly well-being check-ins during advisory periods.

An upcoming peer-mentor program will connect older "safety ambassadors" with younger students, aiming to create stronger relationships and encourage early intervention.

Parents can anticipate updated reporting protocols, including a streamlined mobile tip app and faster guardian notifications.

The board is also pursuing mental health partnerships to bring workshops on stress management and digital safety to campuses.

Funding decisions will be made in August, with implementation expected next school year.

Blaze in Bedford Garage Levels Vehicles, Spreads into Home on Meadow Green

At around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, the Bedford Fire Department responded to a major garage fire on Meadow Green after multiple 911 calls alerted crews.

Firefighters from Bedford, Euless, and Hurst worked together, quickly battling heavy flames that spread from the garage to two vehicles and inside the home.

Intense efforts helped control the blaze, but significant damage affected the garage, vehicles, and house.

No injuries occurred, thanks to the rapid response and support from the Bedford Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association’s Rehab group, which provided hydration and cooling for firefighters.

Recently, the department hosted a successful open house and free Narcan Training to boost community safety.

Residents are encouraged to stay cautious with fire hazards as summer heats up, and to reach out to the Bedford Fire Department for fire safety tips and volunteer opportunities.

Bedford Celebrates Completion of New Water Storage Tank

Bedford marked a milestone in local infrastructure with the unveiling of a new water storage tank on Helm Street, celebrated by town officials and the community at a recent ribbon-cutting.

The tank more than doubles the town’s previous storage capacity, greatly enhancing water security for residents.

Brian Key, Executive Director of the Bedford Regional Water Authority, explained that the tank bolsters emergency preparedness for fires and plant outages, while increasing operational flexibility.

Funded mainly by American Rescue Plan Act resources, the $3.5 million project was a partnership between the Water Authority and the Town of Bedford.

Mayor C.G. Stanley praised the unanimous support for replacing the aging, rusted tank, calling it a vital step toward improved water safety and distribution.

The new facility also streamlines water delivery from Smith Mountain Lake and the Forest system, and complements recent upgrades to the town’s wastewater plant and ongoing water line replacements.

Bedford’s investment signals a strong commitment to reliable, modernized water service for the future.
