A recent altercation among students has highlighted security concerns at Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, prompting the district to propose significant safety and mental health initiatives.
Plans include mandatory de-escalation and conflict-resolution training for all staff, new crisis-response teams on each campus, and more hall monitors to oversee high-traffic areas.
Recognizing increased stress among students, the district is set to add licensed social workers and psychologists, along with weekly well-being check-ins during advisory periods.
An upcoming peer-mentor program will connect older "safety ambassadors" with younger students, aiming to create stronger relationships and encourage early intervention.
Parents can anticipate updated reporting protocols, including a streamlined mobile tip app and faster guardian notifications.
The board is also pursuing mental health partnerships to bring workshops on stress management and digital safety to campuses.
Funding decisions will be made in August, with implementation expected next school year.
